Meet our Trainer
Kylyn Small
Kylyn has extensive experience training staff who worked with OYA youth in a residential setting. They developed as well as facilitated trainings that were dynamic and targeted to the current needs of staff in their programs.
Kylyn provides a range of trainings, with particular experience in LGBTQIA+ education and support, ASIST certified suicide prevention/intervention, and supporting youth with challenging behaviors.
Kylyn uses they/them/theirs pronouns.

Safe Zone (LGBTQIA+ “101”)
Our most popular training for organizations is Safe Zone. This 3-hour workshop serves as a “101” crash course of definitions and explanations. It involves a lot of activities and discussion, with plenty of opportunities to ask questions. Participants walk away with a solid foundational understanding of LGBTQIA+ identities and how to best support them.
This training can be customized to your organization’s needs; reinforcing policy, addressing specific scenarios your staff may encounter, and targeting areas of concern.

LGBTQIA+ “102”
A follow-up to the Safe Zone training. A more in-depth exploration of concepts introduced in Safe Zone including more practical guidance on best practice when working with LGBTQIA+ individuals.

It is strongly recommended that participants have completed a Safe Zone workshop or comparable LGBTQIA+ training, or have prior experience/education working with LGBTQIA+ clients.
Supporting Transgender Clients
Working with transgender and gender non-conforming individuals presents a host of unique challenges and considerations. This workshop provides an in-depth primer on best practice and practical approaches when working with transgender clients.
